Hans J. Sack

Managing Director

Hans Sack has over 30 years of leadership experience in the Metals and Manufacturing Industries with direct oversight and P&L responsibility. He also shares the experience of being a member of a family-owned business.

Hans J. SackHans J. Sack is a Managing Director of HEADWATERS | SC. He is one of our senior professionals in our Metals and Manufacturing industry team. He works on client engagements on matters relating to business growth strategy development and implementation, operational improvement initiatives, and acquisition and consolidation strategies and related due diligence. Mr. Sack brings considerable leadership experience in steel operations and steel mill equipment, as well as automotive component and equipment manufacturing. He also brings the perspective of being a member of a multi-generational business owning family, and of having served as an executive and board member of several family-led businesses.

Prior to joining Headwaters, Mr. Sack served as President & CEO of Latrobe Specialty Steel Company, a producer of aerospace metals and tool steels, from 1996 to 2009. From 2010 to 2012, he served as President and CEO of Berg Steel Pipe Corp., the US subsidiary of Europipe GmbH, the global leader in large diameter pipe for oil and gas pipelines.

Mr. Sack joined The Timken Company in 1990 as a senior steel business specialist. He served subsequent positions in the Steel Group as manager–small bar mill, project manager–parts strategy, general manager–precision steel components, and vice president–manufacturing–steel. Mr. Sack was named President & CEO of Timken Latrobe Steel in 1996 and an officer of The Timken Company in 1998.

In December 2006, The Timken Company sold Timken Latrobe Steel to private equity firms at which time Mr. Sack became President & CEO of the newly named Latrobe Specialty Steel Company.

From 1978 to 1990, Mr. Sack pursued a career in his family’s steel mill equipment business, Sack GmbH, ending as general manager of its Coolant Systems Division after the company became a joint venture with Mannesmann Demag in Düsseldorf, Germany.

Mr. Sack received a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from RWTH Aachen, Germany, and a master’s degree in business administration from the Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration.

Mr. Sack is a member of the Board of Directors of Saint Vincent College and its McKenna School of Business, Economics and Government. He resides in Ligonier, Pennsylvania.
